Why July, August and September?

During these months, bluefin tuna migrate through the Strait of Gibraltar. Orcas follow this migration to hunt, making Tarifa one of the best places in Europe to observe them in the wild. While occasional sightings are possible at other times of the year, the chances are generally much lower.

Why Do Orcas Come to Tarifa?

Every summer, an extraordinary natural event takes place in the Strait of Gibraltar. The migration of bluefin tuna attracts orcas, creating a unique opportunity to observe them in the wild.

1
🌍

The Strait of Gibraltar

The Strait connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Mediterranean Sea and is one of the world's most important migration routes for many marine species.

2
🐟

Bluefin Tuna Arrive

Every summer, thousands of bluefin tuna pass through the Strait during their annual migration. This attracts some of the ocean's top predators.

3
🐋

Orcas Follow Them

Orcas take advantage of this migration to hunt. This natural behaviour makes it possible to observe them near Tarifa during the peak season.

4
📸

A Unique Wildlife Experience

Few places in Europe offer the chance to witness this behaviour in the wild. Every tour is different, making each encounter truly unforgettable.

A completely natural spectacle.

Orcas are wild animals, and every excursion is different. That is exactly what makes each sighting so special and why Tarifa is considered one of the best places in Europe to experience whales and dolphins in their natural habitat.
